Florida LB's bold words about Texas A&M football transfers blow up in his face

Shemar James had a lot to say about a couple of transfers to Texas A&M football. He didn't exactly back it up.

Florida LB Shemar James unable to back up smack talk about Texas A&M football transfers Jaydon Hill and Scooby Williams

In the leadup to Saturday's beatdown of Florida by Texas A&M football, there was one Gator player in particular who was feeling his oats. Shemar James, a linebacker for Florida, had a few choice words for a couple of former teammates of his who now wear the Maroon and White.

Though it was a minor storyline headed into the game—it's not like this made national news, after all—you'd expect a guy who did something like that to come out and back it up. Even though he wouldn't be facing off against LB Scooby Williams or DB Jaydon Hill directly, you can't talk that kind of smack and come out with a dud of a game.

Well, let me rephrase that. You shouldn't talk that kind of smack and have a dud of a game. You certainly can, because that's exactly what Shemar James did.

The final stat line for number six in blue and orange read as follows: two solo tackles.

I did not leave anything out.

That line was good for, as ESPN shows it, 17th-best on the Florida defense. Not exactly covering himself in glory!

I get that there's more to playing good defense than simple tackle numbers. But you never really heard him mentioned as a factor when the Aggies were on offense. And one of the things he was primarily responsible for as a linebacker, containing the run game, was not exactly one of UF's strong suits on the day.

This pregame taunt jumped to mind especially when Scooby made a splashy tackle for loss when Florida was knocking on the door. That can't have been fun for James to see.

Oh well. At least he didn't get his ankles sent into the next life by Marcel Reed.

Tough look all around for the Florida defense.
