Instant reaction: Aggie offense shows out as Texas A&M football throttles McNeese

Texas A&M football bounced back well against an admittedly inferior opponent, moving to 1-1 on the season.

Instant reaction: Texas A&M football back on track after winning big over overmatched McNeese

The opinions were flying all this past week after Texas A&M football put out a dud offensively against Notre Dame in game one. Fans and haters of the Aggies alike were saying crazy stuff about A&M, especially on offense, when you consider it was a team playing their first game under a new regime against a top-10 opponent with possibly the best defense in the country.

No matter how that first game turned out, we always knew this would be a chance to exhale just a bit. The buildup to game one was massive; this one, less so.

Maybe that ended up helping the Ags, as the team looked a lot better offensively today. Weigman, in particular, had a much better day throwing the ball. Against a driving wind, Conner was zipping passes in on long throws. Even his three incompletions were on-target—it was simply either receiver drops or great plays by the corner that affected those plays.

Was he 100% on today? No—there were still a few passes behind receivers. That said, they weren't such that the throws were impossible to catch, obviously. I also liked what I saw out of him in the run game; fans forget the kind of plays he can make in the open field, and that spin move was a nice reminder.

The best plays, though, came from the run game. The offensive line, while not perfect, has simply not looked this good since 2020. In both run blocking and pass protection, the Maroon Goons look like they're back. Le'Veon Moss was making things happen on the ground for much of the day as well.

The final stat sheet won't look amazing. The Aggie backups, with the exception of freshman S Myles Davis, were having some trouble tackling, which led to a few big runs. But the Cowboys only had 79 yards at the half to the Aggies' more than 300—which is before considering that Weigman didn't even play the entire first half.

Overall, I was happy with what we saw today. The first string offense scored five touchdowns in five drives and the defense shut down the Cowboys. Weigman didn't put up a huge number through the air, but he didn't need to. He took the plays that were there and made things happen.

There will still be those who complain all week, but you can only do so much about that.
