Both Texas A&M fans and national media taking Jim Schlossnagle to task following his jump from College Station to Austin
In one of the more shocking moves in recent college baseball history—really, college sports history—Jim Schlossnagle is reportedly headed to Texas. This comes on the heels of the Aggies finishing as runners-up in the College World Series after an extremely hard-fought three game spate against the Tennessee Volunteers.
Not only did this come after some of the biggest games in program history, but amid the rumors swirling about the Texas job, Schloss was asked by Richard Zane of Texags if he was taking the Longhorn job. Schloss, to put it mildly, bristled at the question.
In light of all this, both Aggie fans and national media are taking Schlossnagle to task over how this whole thing unfolded.
Bye 👋

Enjoy worse facilities and a worse fanbase for a little more money.
Unreal. Freaking unreal.

Step up, Trev…you had better get this right. If the guy wants to take his act to Austin, good riddance. Make the right hire and build on what he started here.
Nolan Cain, please! https://t.co/Nt71mIyYoV
Hear me out, he lost on purpose https://t.co/BCjqcGfGy2

This sounds crazy on first glance, but it seems obvious that this must have been a distraction at least to the head man, even if the players knew nothing. But even the players must have gotten wind of something going strangely—which makes you wonder.
It’s a business, and I get it if Schloss wanted to make a move. But you know he could have had Texas delay the Pierce firing until after the national championship game if he had wanted to.

Leaving is one thing. Being complicit in creating a distraction for your team as they’re…
You can’t “fall in love with A&M and the 12th Man” and then go take that job. Clearly this was just a job for him. You don’t truly love Texas A&M and what it represents, and saw ‘em off after every game, and then go take that job. Unless this was just a job for you. 👎🏼

Even former players joined in to make their voices heard on the situation.
Good.

Next guy up. This program deserves better. These fans deserve better. This University deserves better. Only the start and can’t wait to see this all unfold.
Justice for @RichardZane32 and even this entire roster who were treated like absolute crap by Schloss just to switch sides

On that note, it was the fiery denial from last night’s press conference that drew much of the ire from the national media, especially the way that Schloss spoke to Zane after the question was asked. Here’s what some national reporters and outlets had to say about everything that went down.

Aaron Torres didn’t mince words when he spoke about his feelings about Schlossnagle’s conduct.
It's official: Schloss will leave Texas A&M for its biggest rival, one day after playing for a national title.
— Aaron Torres (@Aaron_Torres) June 25, 2024
Don't care if I get crushed for saying it: This is an all time scumbag move coaching move.
John McClain stuck up for Richard Zane in the aftermath of the move, criticizing Schloss’s future credibility.
The first thing Jim Schlossnagle should do is call the TexAgs reporter, Richard Zane, and apologize for insulting him about his question about the Longhorns' job after the defeat. Schlossnagle will never have any credibility again except in Austin.

RedditCFB—or one of the mods behind the page—made this stinging observation.
Jimbo Fisher has been surpassed as the most hated man in College Station https://t.co/vdywcI9H5r

Ahem. At least Roy took four or five days to get over it. Per @KendallRogers he didn’t even need 24 hours. Which means the deal was already done by the time A&M played for the national title last night. Just gross all the way around. https://t.co/lMQK7HMpGr

“How dare you ask me about taking the job at the other place?!”
— Ben Baby (@Ben_Baby) June 25, 2024
*takes job at the other place less than 24 hours later* https://t.co/M8uRazcOvy
Maybe most heartbreaking was this tweet from Chris Cortez, who put it all on the line in game 2 and will likely be headed to the MLB.
This should not take away from what this 2024 Texas A&M baseball team has done. The players make the team, not the coaches. Less than 24 hours ago we were one of the last two teams standing, playing for a National Championship.
— Chris cortez (@ChrisCortezz10) June 25, 2024
Nothing can take that away from us.
I don’t doubt that the Aggies will move quickly to find a replacement, but this is all pretty shocking.
