Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko is dropping hints right before the season debut.

Matchups will mean everything in the Notre Dame game, and Elko is making a bold claim on a one that might have the Aggies on the upper hand—but he wasn't too specific about it.

In the weekly press conference leading up to Notre Dame, Elko made a statement that Aggie fans will hope to come true this season.

Texas A&M football HC Mike Elko: We have our No. 1 receiver

This statement has Aggie fans wondering what Elko really meant, because he didn't name a specific receiver.

The question now is: who could Elko be referring to?

Elko could be referring to a couple of guys. Both veteran receivers for the Aggies have made highlight plays before. They're just waiting to have more of them with Connor Weigman.

"I think it's obviously nice to have a guy who's a number one because that means you've got a guy that commands attention. We'll find out Saturday night, but I believe we have that."

Noah Thomas and Weigman could be a deadly duo for the Aggies next season. Thomas's long range and athletic ability could draw attention for other guys to get open. Thomas is 6 foot 6 inches tall with a pretty neat upside. He could be utilized as a jump ball guy in the corner of the endzone.

Another guy who has a highlight reel is Moose Muhammad. He has tremendous athletic ability and could very well be about to shine this season. It seems unlikely for him to be the candidate, though, given that he was listed today as a backup.

This won't matter of course if Weigman is not healthy in 2024. The combination of a promising young quarterback with plenty of weapons could lead to a healthy, consistent offense this season.

Elko will be tested this season as a first time Texas A&M football coach, but fans have high hopes for him after making a statement like he did in terms of his receiving corps.
