Power ranking the SEC after Media Days: #2 Alabama Crimson Tide

. Alabamee. Previous ranking: 2. . . . 523. . 2.

For all the turnover, Alabama is still Alabama. Yes, they lost Caleb Downs. Yes, they lost Isaiah Bond. Yes, they lost Kadyn Proctor. Yes, they brought back Kadyn Procter. That was kind of crazy, wasn’t it?.

The one thing that gives me pause here is my opinion of Jalen Milroe. That man can sling the long ball, don’t get me wrong. I think we all bore witness to that in an increasingly somber Kyle Field last October. But can he be consistent? Pass well in a down-to-down setting? That is something he has yet to prove.

I know I made an earlier joke about Kane Wommack, but I actually like what he brings to the table as defensive coordinator for the Tide. I expect this to once more be a really solid unit in Tuscaloosa, even if they did lose both Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold (and Dezz Ricks! Ha HA!).

DeBoer is an offensive wizard, as we’ve seen, so maybe he can get things going with Milroe, even without Ryan Grubb at his right hand. They’ll need to if they want to make it through this schedule.

September 28th against Georgia will be absolutely electric, and one of the biggest games of the entire season as regards narrative. Can Kirby fully seize the mantle as the nation’s top program, or can DeBoer keep him down? The former Washington head man has a knack for winning even when it seems unlikely, so I wouldn’t bet against him.
