Power ranking the SEC after week 2: #8 LSU

. b. 8. . . . 529. . Previous ranking: 8.

It’s not amazing to follow up a frustrating loss to a good team with a frustrating win over a horrendous opponent. But Brian Kelly has his own way of doing things, and we all should respect his process and decisions.

LSU is teetering on the precipice of a really, really bad year. Even though Brian Kelly has notched two good seasons so far in Baton Rouge, I wouldn’t be surprised if a 6-6, 7-5 type of season gets him canned after this year—the fit has always been a little strange.

Then again, he’s got a Scott Woodward Special for his contract, so maybe not. LSU doesn’t have the funds that A&M does, so the Tigers could be locked into this one for quite some time.

In any case, Nussmeier is a gunslinger and Lacy is a decent receiver, though nothing like Nabers or Thomas in my opinion. Harold Perkins is still far too much of a non-factor on that team. And unfortunately, the Tigers just lost their top interior DL for the year; a spot at which they were already quite thin.

The Bayou Bengals have a tough task ahead of them. Still yet to come are the aforementioned trip to Columbia, SC, a visit from UCLA, and a big game against the Crimson Tide. That’s not to mention the visit to College Station, where they haven’t won since Obama was in office. LSU is in a precarious position.
