Power ranking the SEC after week 2: #9 South Carolina

. Previous ranking: 15. . team. 533. . . . b. 9

Look, this may be a complete overreaction, and is certainly a huge vacillation from where I had the Gamecocks ranked last week. But if for no other reason than the absolutely ferocious pass rush (and defense overall!) that we’ve seen out of USC, the Gamecocks can really make some noise this year.

LaNorris Sellers is still settling in as a quarterback, but he looked substantially better this week against a much better defense than he saw last week. This appeared to me to be a little bit of a “overlook your week one opponent so that you can prepare for week two” situation for the Gamecocks, especially given the mini-rivalry that has developed between Mark Stoops and Shane Beamer.

Dylan Stewart is a complete monster out there. Kyle Kennard looks like a very valuable transfer portal pickup from Georgia Tech. Both are on track for double-digit sack years, which would be absolutely massive for this SC team.

This game against LSU will be a decisive point in the season for Beamer’s team. Despite a slow start, the Tigers still bring the cache of their name and top-25 ranking, so a win would be massive.
