Texas A&M Aggies news: Another defensive back announces his transfer intentions, A&M hires a recruiting staffer with intriguing ties

Here’s your daily roundup of Texas A&M Aggies news for February 28th, 2024.

Texas A&M football is having a pretty busy late February, all things considered. Less than a week following Jacoby Mathews announcing that he would enter the portal, DB Sam McCall—already a one-time transfer from Florida State—announced he would be entering the portal after only one season with the Aggies. McCall saw limited time in a backup role for the Aggies this year and struggled despite bringing impressive measurables.

That’s not all for Texas A&M football, either. The Aggies continue to round out Mike Elko’s first staff in both on-field and off-field roles with the addition of Joe Hamilton. Hamilton, formerly the director of scouting and recruiting at the University of Florida, played a huge role in the Gators’ successful recruitment of 5-star QB DJ Lagway from Willis, Texas. He brings a wealth of Texas connections and is a savvy hire by Elko.

Aggie baseball dispatched Lamar with relative ease last night. The Aggies triumphed, 13-2, in only 7 innings. LaViolette and Grahovec once again shone for A&M, and two-way transfer Braden Montgomery got a chance to throw a couple of strikes, retiring one batter in the inning that he pitched. Next up for the Aggies is the Globe Life Classic this weekend, in which they will face Arizona State and USC.

Texas A&M basketball faces a trial tonight when they host the South Carolina Gamecocks. Carolina brings in a 22-5 record to Reed Arena tonight, and the Ags will have their work cut out for them. The Gamecocks play tough defense and have several guys who can light it up from three.
