Texas A&M baseball picks up commitment from Gavin Kash; Former Texas, TTU infielder ranked as nation's top portal prospect

Michael Earley is wasting absolutely zero time as head coach for Texas A&M baseball on the recruiting front. As we saw in today's press conference, the new head man for the Aggie baseball program is ready to show that the high-level play we saw out of this year's team is here to stay into the future.

We already knew that Earley was one of the masterminds behind Jim Schlossnagle's recruiting apparatus while the new Longhorn coach was in College Station. The new Aggie coach is already showing his former boss a thing or two about how things are done on the trail, as Earley and new hitting coach Caleb Longley just picked up a commitment from Gavin Kash, the top-ranked player in the transfer portal.

Well, I say he's the top-ranked player—technically, he's the top-ranked behind Gavin Grahovac and Jace LaViolette, both of whom announced their intentions to stay in College Station today. I guess if you look at it one way, then, the Aggies just picked up commitments from the top three portal prospects in the span of about seven hours. Pretty impressive!

Kash can slide right into a spot in the infield. Grahovac is a utility player who can move to the outfield if need be, and with the uncertain status of Wyatt Henseler, this is a heck of an insurance policy if things don't go in a Maroon and White direction there. Even so, though, Henseler would be able to play second base if he ends up with the Aggies.

This takes what was already one of the best power hitting lineups in the nation to another level. The Aggies may be losing Braden Montgomery, but Kash's bat is to be greatly feared in its own right. I could get used to the new era of Aggie baseball pretty quickly.
