Texas A&M baseball turns a double play to close out sixth inning, Aggies now nine outs away

Texas A&M baseball has been part of a heart-pumping matchup here in game two of the College World Series final. The Aggies took an early lead off of a Jace LaViolette homer in the first inning, but neither team has scored since then.

That's not to say, though, that neither team has threatened. Chris Cortez is a very talented pitcher, but it can be quite the roller coaster sometimes when he is on the mound. More than once in this game, the Vols have gotten some runners on, only for this Aggie team to make a Houdini-like escape.

With his pitch count climbing higher and higher, Cortez exited the game in the sixth inning, leaving two on base with one out for Kaiden Wilson. With the Tennessee lineup about to turn over to power hitter Christian Moore, the Vols looked like they would take a sac bunt to try and manufacture some offense. Wilson induced a swing, however, and then this happened:

This is yet another clutch play by this Aggie team. Every time the Vols have threatened, the Ags have shown up, much as has been the case throughout their time in Omaha.

This was a huge exhale moment for the Aggies. Working with the lead, the Ags are just trying to get to Evan Aschenbeck territory. Despite what I said last night, it appears the Stopper of the Year is ready to go today. If the Aggies can get to the final two innings retaining the lead, then it could be curtains for the Vols.
