Three big time recruitments that will come down to Texas A&M football and Texas: Aggies need to set tone in new era

Texas A&M football, for all the concerns that certain Aggie fans had about Elko's recruiting ability, is off to a fast start in the 2025 class. This is a huge cycle in the state of Texas, as I've written about several times: nearly one-fifth of the entire composite top-100 is made up of recruits from the Lone Star State.

This is another big cycle in the Republic for another reason, however. With the Longhorns now able to sell the vaunted SEC to recruits, this is—to listen to Texas fans—finally an even playing field between the two teams. Of course, through burnt orange lenses, this means a huge class at the Aggies' expense is inevitable.

Against that backdrop, though, the Aggies have performed quite well so far. Tangible results are few and far between on either side when it comes to the most high-leverage of these recruitments, but we have a few classic battles shaping up between College Station and Austin on the trail.

So, which are the most high-leverage of these races? I've come up with three that will be statement gets for either the Horns or Aggies. There are higher-rated players on either side that one of the two is in on—the Aggies don't look to be in the thick of things for Dakorien Moore, for example, nor the Longhorns for Jonah Williams or Ty Haywood—but I'm counting the recruitments that look like they are coming down to a top two of A&M and Texas. Let's take a look.
