Power ranking the SEC after week 12: #2 - Alabama

Alabama, after everything, finds themselves now in prime position to make it to Atlanta after all. This has got to have been a complete roller coaster of a year emotionally for Tide fans, who looked like conference favorites after beating UGA, but then were relegated to the back burner after losing to Vanderbilt.

Things got even worse when they lost to Tennessee and were sitting at 2-2 in conference, with one win being by the skin of their teeth against South Carolina. Now, though, they’re at 8-2 overall, with games at OU and home against Auburn left to play.

What’s more, with all of these other teams losing, and Texas A&M and the Longhorns set to play an elimination game against each other in the final week, the Tide look like they have all but clinched a spot in Atlanta (pending those final two games, I mean). Their schedule is one of the toughest in the conference, which will help them when it comes to tiebreakers.

They’re simply playing as well or better than nearly every other team in the country right now, and they keep getting better. Kalen DeBoer may just find himself right back in the national championship this year—and this time, he’ll have a much better shot of getting the win, simply by virtue of just how talented this squad is.
