Predictions pouring in for 5-star talent that will dismay Texas A&M fans

Texas A&M fans had all the confidence in the world for this recruitment, but now things are souring pretty quickly.

Texas A&M football is attempting to put the finishing touches on an unbelievably stacked recruiting class for the 2027 cycle. The Aggies have already notched commitments from seven players that are ranked as five-star prospects by at least one service, a number nearly equalling that which we saw out of the legendary highly-rated 2022 group.

They are far from done as well, with several big time targets still left on the board. Three of the four remaining five-star prospects that the Aggies are looking to land have announcement dates coming within a week, so we are going to see a lot of action taking place very quickly.

However, though the Aggies were trending heavily to land several of this group very recently, the trends have begun to move in the opposite direction for at least one of them. Longtime Aggie target Albert Simien has seen the Notre Dame Fighting Irish come on strongly for him in recent weeks, and it looks like it may be Marcus Freeman with the momentum right now.

Simien will be announcing his commitment on Friday, so things are coming down to the wire in this recruitment. Though the Aggies held the momentum for quite some time, it's the Irish who are looking like they are about to pick up a pledge from the Lake Charles, LA prospect.

Three predictions came in this morning from Rivals staff for Simien, with Steve Wiltfong, Mike Singer, and Sam Spiegelman all registering their confidence that he will end up as part of the class for the Fighting Irish. Wiltfong had his prediction on the Aggies as recently as yesterday, so it's pretty telling that he flipped his call for this one.

If Simien heads to South Bend rather than College Station, it would mark a split of five-star prospects between the Aggies and Irish in the past week. Kaden Henderson, the nation's top linebacker, chose Texas A&M over Notre Dame a little under a week ago, much to the chagrin of Irish fans— so you had to know that Marcus Freeman and company would make a hard charge after Simien so as not to go o-fer.

That said, we did see a surge of confidence for the Irish in Henderson's recruitment just days before he ended up committing to the Aggies as well. Though momentum lies with Notre Dame right now, the Aggies could still make a final push here in these last days before the commitment takes place.

Even if he does end up committing to the Irish, of course, the Aggies will still keep on Simien as long as they can. He's their top remaining offensive line target, and the allure of playing alongside guys like Mark Matthews and Kennedy Brown has to be strong.

We'll have to wait and see what happens with Simien, but things are not trending positively at the moment. Hopefully, the Aggies can turn that momentum around here quickly, just like they did for Kaden Henderson.
