Texas A&M basketball could take another step forward in AP Poll after huge college basketball shakeup this weekend

Texas A&M basketball is in an extremely enviable spot right now. The Aggies are well into the nation's top 10 in the polls, and the team's achievements are being rewarded by the NCAA selection committee already.

After dunking all over the Arkansas Razorbacks this past Saturday, the Aggies are looking for a shot to rise even higher in estimation. Currently, the Aggies sit at 8th in the nation, but they have great reason to believe they'll move higher when today's poll releases.

The Aggies are currently ranked below the Purdue Boilermakers, a team they defeated in a de facto road game earlier this year. Even though the two squads have the same number of losses, the voters have the Boilermakers higher than the Aggies.

After Purdue sustained a loss earlier this week, though, the Aggies stand a great chance to move up above them to at least 7th. If the Aggies remain below Purdue when the poll releases, in other words, something stinks.

Moving any higher would be a tall order at this point, though. Houston, Tennessee, Duke, Florida, Alabama, and Auburn are ahead of the Aggies right now— and A&M will have a shot at three of those teams in due time.

For right now, though, it seems dubious that the Ags would move any higher than those teams. The Aggies have a chance to make a jump in next week's poll if they can take care of business against Mississippi State and take down Tennessee, but there's a lot of work to be done yet on that front. For now, I see the Aggies moving up to 7th.
