Texas A&M is far from where they wanted to be at this point in the season, sitting at .500 on the bye week. These final four games are maybe their toughest of the season, too, with fans becoming more and more pessimistic that the Aggies can make their way to a bowl game.
Can the Aggies rework some things to get some late momentum this year, or will this team only sink further in the face of the upcoming hardship? Let's take a look at the upcoming slate and predict how the Aggies will fare.
Revised predictions for Texas A&M's final four games: Aggies stumble but don't fall
Texas A&M at South Carolina, November 7
The Aggies have not won on the road in Columbia, SC, since the COVID season back in 2020. This has been turned into a home-and-home series after a long stretch of dominance by the Aggies— they didn't lose a single game despite playing yearly from when the series began in 2014 all the way up until 2022.
Unfortunately for the Aggies, it looks like their road woes in Williams Brice are likely to continue— though this is an early afternoon kick for the Ags, they will have to contend with what appears to be a resurgent South Carolina team. The Gamecocks have knocked off Florida and Tennessee in their past two games, and will take on Oklahoma in Norman today.
This is not even to mention the fact that the Gamecocks are going to be looking for some major revenge after the way last year's game went. That miracle comeback for the Aggies is conversely seen as a major collapse in Columbia, so Beamer and company will no doubt be trying to get even. I picked this game as a loss in the preseason, and nothing has made me come off of that.
Prediction: South Carolina 31, Texas A&M 23
Texas A&M vs Tennessee, November 14
The Aggies are hosting the Volunteers for the now-yearly blackout game, and they'll be in dire need of a win, coming into this one at 4-5. The Vols sustained only their second loss of the year last week against South Carolina and are on a bye today before facing a top-10 Kentucky in Neyland next Saturday.
Tennessee has a great defense and run game, but they've quietly been a pretty bad road team this year. They scooted by Georgia Tech in game two, but the alarm bells came when they barely snuck by Arkansas in Fayetteville— then, of course, you have the loss on the road at South Carolina.
I think the Aggies can get this one done, unlikely as it may seem right now. A&M's run defense has only gotten better week by week, so I think the Aggies can pull off a win in a low-scoring affair.
Prediction: Texas A&M 24, Tennessee 20
Texas A&M at Oklahoma, November 21
This may be the hardest game to predict on the schedule, in all honesty. The defenses are the best units of each team, and in low-scoring affairs, just one or two busted plays can define the way the game goes.
The Aggies have had a penchant for giving up the big play, but OU has been susceptible to that at times themselves. John Mateer is the only match for Marcel Reed this season in throwing the ball to the other team, so it could well be a turnover-fest in Norman.
For all of their issues, I like A&M's offensive weapons better than OU's. I think the Aggies can find a way to get it done on the road in Norman for their first (and only) win away from Kyle this season, getting to bowl eligibility.
Prediction: Texas A&M 17, Oklahoma 13
Texas A&M vs Texas, November 27
The Lone Star Showdown is back in Kyle this season, but the stakes will be far lower in this one than in previous years. The winner of the 2024 matchup would head to the SEC Championship game; A&M is far off from that already, and Texas will be eliminated after dropping at least one of their two upcoming road games against Missouri and LSU.
The Aggies were on the verge of an SEC championship appearance last year until they completely laid an egg in Austin. That was painful, but I think the Aggies can get some payback in this one this year.
Texas, to this point, has still only played one true road game this season, and it was a noon kick. Arch struggled mightily in that one. Kyle Field is going to be a hornet's nest even if the Aggies are 4-7 by this point. We saw an Aggie team with that record knock off the Atlanta-bound, top-10 LSU Tigers in 2022— and history might be repeating itself this year.
Prediction: Texas A&M 34, Texas 20
