Texas A&M's blowout victory over Missouri was par for the course in the SEC this past weekend, with five of the conference's six games finishing with an average margin of victory of 26.4 points. While it may not have been the most appetizing slate of SEC football, there were plenty of outcomes that continued to shape the conference title picture, so let's get you caught up on everything that's transpired.
Auburn's offense comes to life as post-Hugh Freeze era begins, but Tigers still lose at Vanderbilt
The one electric battle of the weekend happened in Nashville, Tennessee, as Vanderbilt held on to an overtime victory over Auburn by a final score of 45-38. The Tigers, who came into this game with one of the worst scoring offenses in the country, sprung to life in their first game without Hugh Freeze as their head coach — earning 563 yards of total offense, including 353 through the air.
Ashton Daniels played a terrific game under center, accounting for 442 yards of total offense and four total touchdowns. He also got terrific play from his two star wideouts Cam Coleman and Eric Singleton, who combined for 245 yards and two scores on 21 grabs. While that led to Auburn's highest scoring day of conference play, its defense was nowhere to be found — surrendering 544 yards of offense on nearly eight yards per play to the Commodore offense.
Diego Pavia was not to be outdone by Daniels, as he accounted for 489 yards of offense and four total touchdowns. He found Cole Spence for the game-winning score in overtime to send the Tigers packing, while keeping Vanderbilt's playoff hopes very much alive as the team moves to 8-2 with two games remaining against Kentucky and at Tennessee. The Tigers, now 4-6, have home games against Mercer and Alabama before wrapping a bow on the season.
