Texas A&M has been extremely active on the recruiting trail lately, with five-stars announcing their commitments left and right. The Aggies have pulled in their fair share and are positioned well for quite a few more.

Texas A&M has not only been busy in football, but baseball as well. The Aggies just threw a huge wrench in the future plans of the Texas Longhorns with their latest move.

All this and more in today's Texas A&M Aggies news for June 23, 2026.

Texas A&M Aggies news: 5-star movement, seismic staff changes, and more

John Meredith commits to Texas Longhorns

This was a hotly-contested race that came right down to the wire for the Aggies and Longhorns, and at least for now, Texas has won out for the nation's top cornerback. This is certainly a blow to the Aggies, as Texas A&M thought they had this one on lock earlier in the fall.

Of course, this is a story that is far from over for the Aggies. They'll no doubt keep swinging away at the nation's no. 1-ranked defensive back, despite losing out on this initial round. The Aggies and the relationships they have formed have won out in situations like this before, so this one will only be over when pen meets paper.

That said, you don't see high-level flips happen very often anymore in college football, so getting that initial commitment is more important than ever. The Aggies had better start working some of their other options, even while they keep lines of communication open with Meredith.

Joshua Dobson names Aggies in top three

Speaking of options, CB Joshua Dobson has been one at the very top of the list for the Aggies for quite some time, and he's officially placed Texas A&M in his top group. That's a massive win for the Aggies, but they may not be done.

Texas A&M's competition for the no. 2 corner in America are the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Michigan Wolverines. Dobson's commitment date is set for July 1, so it's now only a little over a week before he goes public with his decision.

The Aggies currently lead for Dobson on the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, which is a great sign now that this announcement has been made. The Wolverines and Gamecocks will no doubt make their pitches, but the Ags look like they're in a great place.

Albert Simien sets surprisingly soon commitment date

Another five-star target for the Aggies, OL Albert Simien will be announcing his commitment on June 26— this Friday. Simien has long been one of Texas A&M's top targets, and the Aggies are vying for his pledge with the LSU Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

Simien's final visit was to South Bend, which is not a great sign, but there hasn't been a lot of confidence from their fans since he left town. The Aggies already beat the Irish for Kaden Henderson, so you can imagine just how apopletic they'd be if A&M is able to win out for Simien as well.

The Aggies are also trending for Simien on the Rivals Recruiting Prediction Machine, with LSU as their closest challenger. This one will no doubt take a few more turns before that commitment date comes to pass.

Eric McFarland set to commit soon with Aggies trending

McFarland is one of the nation's most electric receivers, and the IMG Academy product is high on the Aggies. He's been to Florida, Georgia, and other top schools, but many indications still point towards Texas A&M right now.

Though just barely out of five-star range right now, McFarland could quickly gain it back with another productive season at IMG. He's set to commit on June 28, and the Aggies have a commanding RPM lead according to Rivals.

Texas A&M sets fire to Schlossnagle's program by hiring Nolan Cain

In case you didn't see the breaking news late last week, Texas A&M took a torch to the Texas Longhorn program when they hired Nolan Cain away from Jim Schlossnagle. Cain was an integral piece of what Schloss was looking to build in Austin, and the Aggies quickly stole him back.

Cain was on the Aggies' staff when they recruited some of the stars that we've seen in the maroon and white over the last few years— Jace LaViolette, Gavin Grahovac, Caden Sorrell, and others. This is a massive win for Texas A&M.

The Aggies have already been active in the transfer portal as a result, while the Longhorns are reeling. The balance of power is starting to shift in a maroon direction across all sports in the Lone Star Showdown, and this is yet another example of that.
