Texas A&M Aggies news: Zhuric Phelps heads to Dallas, Aggies lose out to UT for explosive athlete, and more

Here's your daily dose of Texas A&M Aggies news for June 30, 2025.

Zhuric Phelps seeks NBA future in guard-poor Dallas roster

Zhuric Phelps may have only been a one-year player in the Aggies' maroon and white, but he made a huge impact on fans in that one year. His scoring and spirited defense seemed to make him the perfect complement to both Wade Taylor and Pharell Payne, but the team still fell short in the NCAA tournament despite his best efforts.

Phelps is out of eligibility, and not having heard his name called in the NBA draft, he's headed to the UDFA route. He has accepted a summer league roster invitation from the Dallas Mavericks, and will be sharing the stage with Cooper Flagg in Las Vegas as he competes for a full roster spot. Hopefully this move works out for him.

Mike Elko and Aggies miss again as UT snags Lone Star State ATH

Texas A&M's hot recruiting run will have a chance to spark back up soon, but they're running a bit dry at the moment. The Aggies were getting every prospect they wanted for a while, but there have now been three decisions that have not gone the Aggies' way.

Josh Heupel and the Volunteers swooped in to North Forney and pulled ATH Legend Bey out of the Aggies' grasp. A&M will be fine at receiver, but Bey would have been a great luxury to have for his high-level speed.

Texas A&M has all but secured top RB class in 2026

We all knew the combo of KJ Edwards and Jonathan Hatton, Jr., would be a potent one both on the field and in the recruiting rankings, but this look at the top running backs in the nation shows that the Aggies have all but locked down the best RB class in the nation at this point.

Give Trooper Taylor his due. The man has done one heck of a job recruiting at the RB position since being hired on in Aggieland. Hopefully, this trend continues.
