Texas A&M baseball dropped the rubber match against Oklahoma yesterday, as the Aggies fall to 1-2 in conference play after opening against the top-10 ranked Sooners. Games one and three were absolute disasters for the Aggies— albeit in different ways— broken up by one encouraging win in the Saturday contest.

Texas A&M came out ahead on the weekend in run differential, as a +2 with their four-run victory compared to two one-run losses, but that's part of what made this so agonizing for the Aggies. The high-speed winds made things difficult on both teams on Sunday, but Oklahoma ended up weathering things a bit better than the Aggies did, though an inconsistent strike zone didn't help A&M at all.

The big issue is that the Aggies lost one of their top relievers in Josh Stewart, possibly for quite some time. Again, no official word has come down about the nature of his injury, but if he is out for the season, it would be absolutely disastrous for Texas A&M's season barring some unexpected emergence from the pitching ranks.

The Aggies will have a midweek game against Texas State to hopefully regroup, but they won't have a lot of time to lick their wounds. With very few exceptions, SEC baseball schedules are a complete grind, and that holds true here: the Aggies will welcome in the top-ten-ranked Georgia Bulldogs this weekend in a home series.

The good news is that this loss did not drop the Ags out of the rankings completely— they dropped only one spot to 23rd, which reflects the competitive nature of the series. Still, it hurts to think that a play here or there could have flipped this result on its head, and that would have provided a whole different type of momentum going into this upcoming series.

The Aggies will need to get things together quickly, as things don't let up after their matchup with the Bulldogs. Missouri is a spot where the Ags can get some revenge, and Vanderbilt just knocked off LSU (who is struggling enough to drop completely out of the rankings), and then the Aggies get Texas. This is a gauntlet that A&M has ahead of them, so they need to regroup expeditiously.
