Texas A&M baseball's bright future thrust into jeopardy with disappointing loss

Texas A&M baseball is all of a sudden on a bit of a slide after the last two weekends.

Texas A&M baseball has dropped the series to the Ole Miss Rebels by going 1-1 in today's doubleheader, closing the weekend at 1-2 overall. This is the second straight weekend that the Aggies have lost a series by that same mark, and the second straight deciding game that they lost by one run.

In all fairness, the Aggies came into this one hobbled. They were without star freshman Nico Partida after he suffered a hamstring injury in game one against Auburn last weekend, and to add even more adversity, they had to play this game without another big time freshman in Boston Kellner.

However, in Kellner's absence, Ben Royo played really well today, so you can't really plead his injury as the reason for Texas A&M's loss. The offense failed to deliver again in this game, which was surprising after an 18-run performance earlier in the day— and now, Aggie fans will be sweating a national seed as a result.

Texas A&M's series loss to Ole Miss means the Aggies are sliding out of national seed territory

Following Texas A&M's series win over the Florida Gators, it seemed all but assured that the Aggies would be hosting a regional and super regional in the postseason. However, with these last two weekends, they are now in a bit of a bind.

The Aggies have gone 2-4 in their last two weekends, and they are sliding in the SEC standings as a result. Things aren't going to get any better, as they face maybe the best team of the bunch this upcoming weekend when Mississippi State rolls into town.

The one upside is that the Aggies will get to face off with State in the friendly confines of Blue Bell Park. Anything less than a sweep, however, could mean that the Ags will still be sweating out the possibility of a national seed when all is said and done.
