Texas A&M baseball superstar's massive weekend series earns him huge honor

Given the amount of talent competing in the SEC, this is one of the hardest distinctions to earn in this sport.

Texas A&M baseball superstar Caden Sorrell has been named the SEC Player of the Week for his massive series this past weekend against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles. This is no surprise given the eye-catching numbers that Sorrell compiled over the course of the three games, and it proves that Mike Earley will have one of his most potent weapons at full strength for this year.

The press release from Texas A&M Athletics mentions that this is the first time that Sorrell has been named the SEC Player of the Week in his career, despite the fact that he's been lighting things up in an Aggie uniform for the past two seasons.

Sorrell was nine for fifteen at the plate this weekend, knocked in 10 runs, scored seven himself, and homered three times. That's about as dominant of a performance as you'll see out of a player in college baseball.

Texas A&M's Caden Sorrell named SEC Player of the Week after huge start to the season

Sorrell was key in the Aggies sweeping the Golden Eagles this weekend, leading them to move up a spot in the D1Baseball top 25 rankings. The Aggies have a little more proof of concept after a disappointing 2025 now, and fans are beginning to pay a little more attention, despite several writing Earley off after that late-season fade.

This is an extremely high honor for Sorrell, of course, given the fact that the SEC is something of a mini-MLB. There is star power galore in this conference, with nearly every team boasting multiple prospects who will have long careers in the majors.

And yet, Sorrell was the cream of the crop this weekend. If he keeps up this level of play alongside guys like Gavin Grahovac, Chris Hacopian, and others, then Texas A&M baseball could quickly find themselves in the mix to be a regional host come playoff time.
