Texas A&M basketball fans glum yet unsurprised at AP poll slide; Aggies still have plenty of opportunity left

After the midweek loss to Mississippi State, Texas A&M basketball fans knew that there was still yet a chance to salvage things if the Ags could win on Saturday against Tennessee. When that went sideways, the frustration began to set in.

The Aggies haven't exactly been regulars in the top 10 for basketball in program history, so keeping that status was exciting for fans of Aggie Hoops. Once those two losses came down, though, it seemed almost a foregone conclusion that the Ags would slide.

Now that the new AP Poll has been released, we see just how far the Aggies fell. With some other teams losing near A&M, it wasn't as bad as it could have been— the Ags only slid five spots in total, down to 12th.

This was no huge surprise for Aggie fans, but it's still a sore spot for some. The thing that most people were commenting on, actually, was the symmetry of the 12 spot for a school so tied to the number, but there were some fans really not having it.

While A&M struggled to overcome the crowd in Starkville, which had a material impact on the game, they surely didn't lose at home on Saturday due to a dearth of crowd support in Reed. It was a sellout in the Aggies' home gym, and the rowdy fans nearly willed the Ags to victory.

Despite this, Wade Taylor's uncharacteristically bad shooting night still has some fans disgruntled, it appears.

As far as the NET rankings are concerned, the Aggies have fallen down to 18th as of the latest update. They'll have some opportunities to climb in the estimation of both, of course, in these final four games. Vandy is a must-win in the middle of this week before a challenging trip to Florida, and then the Aggies get no break with a game against Auburn. It's quite a challenge, but we'll find out a lot about this Aggie team very soon.
