Texas A&M basketball's just-revealed conference schedule shows Bucky's difficult road

Texas A&M basketball is set for the first full season under Bucky McMillan in the upcoming year, and it should be an exciting one for the Aggies. They've done some great work in the transfer portal, including picking up one of the nation's leading scorers in PJ Haggerty.

Yet navigating the SEC will always be a tall task for any team, and with the newly-released schedules for the conference, Aggie fans know more surely than ever that that is true. Texas A&M's conference slate has now been revealed for the upcoming season, and it's going to be a tough docket indeed for the Aggies.

Here's the schedule for the Aggies:

Texas A&M basketball mirror opponents for 2026-2027

Home and away, also known as "Mirror Opponents":

• Vanderbilt

• LSU

• Texas

LSU under Will Wade is the biggest wild card here. It's hard to tell how good they'll be, exactly, but it feels safe to say that they will be better than they were last season— and the Aggies barely managed a sweep of the hapless Tigers last season.

Vanderbilt has been resurgent over the last few years, especially this past season. Texas A&M can't write off the Commodores, even though they are losing a couple of their best scorers coming into the next season.

Texas A&M basketball home games for 2026-2027

Home games:

• Alabama

• Arkansas

• Auburn

• Georgia

• Oklahoma

• Tennessee

This sets up for quite a few big home games for the Aggies in this upcoming season. Alabama was a pivotal game for the Aggies in 2025-2026, with the close, high-scoring loss down in Tuscaloosa marking something of a turning point for what was at that moment an Aggie team that was on fire.

Losing to Nate Oats's squad sent Texas A&M spiraling over the next stretch, and they'll be looking for revenge when Bama comes to Reed next season. Another team seeking revenge is the Auburn Tigers, who had a game-winning buzzer beater overturned against the Aggies last year— but they'll have to get their pound of flesh in Reed Arena rather than in Auburn.

The Tennessee matchup is another interesting one for the Aggies. The Aggies' close loss to Tennessee in Knoxville was the only hiccup in their hot start, and there was no shortage of referee talk in that one. This is another intriguing matchup to follow.

Away games:

• Florida

• Kentucky

• Ole Miss

• Mississippi State

• Missouri

• South Carolina

Right off of the bat, facing both Florida and Kentucky on the road means that there are two almost-assured losses on the docket. You never want to judge too quickly, but both of these squads are going to be near the top of the conference next season.

The good news is that every other team, except possibly Ole Miss, should be wins for the Aggies, despite coming on the road. Texas A&M should be better than each of these other four teams, so if they can split the Florida and Kentucky matchups, they may be golden heading into the tournament.
