Texas A&M has just made their first move of the transfer portal window for basketball, as the Aggies have now picked up a commitment from former Kansas State guard PJ Haggerty. Haggerty left Manhattan following the dismissal of former Wildcats coach Jerome Tang in the middle of this last season, and the Aggies will benefit from it.

This is no small pickup for the Aggies, as Haggerty was fourth nationally in scoring this past year, averaging 23.4 points per game for the Wildcats. That's an immediate boost to an offense that needs some juice following all the departures that the Ags have seen off of last year's squad.
Texas A&M adds lethal scoring option PJ Haggerty for Bucky McMillan from transfer portal
This is exactly what Texas A&M needed from the portal— well, in a sense, I'm sure that every team in the country feels like they could use a 20+ point-per-game scorer— but this is the perfect fit for Bucky Ball. With the recent departure of Ruben Dominguez and Pop Isaacs, Texas A&M was badly in need of an elite scoring option and shooter, as well as a ball handler on the team.
That's what they're getting in Haggerty, and more besides. This is one of the more notable pickups for any team in the portal so far, and it's a massive move for Bucky McMillan heading into year two.
The downside is that this is another one-year player, as Haggerty only has one season of eligibility left. I'm sure Texas A&M will get him into the system and familiar with how McMillan coaches the game sooner rather than later, and he could form a feared tandem with Mackenzie Mgbako in this upcoming year.
The scoring potential between the frontcourt and backcourt options that Texas A&M already has in the fold for next season is scary for other teams. McMillan is only getting started— there is surely more to come on this front very soon.
