Bucky McMillan and Texas A&M Basketball move to 4-2 on the year after a beatdown win against the Manhattan Jaspers tonight, 109-68. The Aggies set two program records tonight that we would've never seen broken in the Buzz Williams era.
Let's start with the man of the hour, Ruben Dominguez. He recorded 30 points, shooting 10-14 from beyond the arc tonight. He breaks the previous Texas A&M basketball record of 8 made 3-pointers in a game by a player. The Aggies as a team shot 18-37 (49%) from beyond the arc, breaking another Texas A&M record for most 3-pointers made by the team.
Texas A&M basketball sets huge records from deep vs Manhattan
Aside from Dominguez, three other Aggies recorded double figures in scoring tonight: Hill had 19, Griffen had 17, and Lane had 12. After a couple of off games from Jacari Lane, he finally gets back into double figures tonight. Jamie Vinson had another efficient game with 7 points and 5 rebounds in only 16 minutes. The Aggies forced 16 turnovers while only committing 8 themselves. They even outrebounded Manhattan 36-28.
Despite the big offensive night, there are plenty of places to improve for the Aggies. Zach Clemence only had 2 points. Josh Holloway only had 6 points as well. Mackenzie Mgbako made his Aggie debut tonight, but it didn't last long. Mgbako only played 4 minutes and went 0-2 from the field. Pop Isaacs did not suit up for the Aggies tonight. The Aggie team will need to be fully healthy if they are to make any sort of run this year.
The Aggies still have some work to do on defense, especially on the perimeter. Manhattan shot 45% from beyond the arc and 44% from the field. If they continue to let teams shoot like this, it could be a long season.
The Aggies will return to action looking for their 5th win on Tuesday night when they host the Delta Devils of Mississippi Valley State, potentially the worst basketball team in Division 1. The Aggies will be looks for another dominant win on Tuesday before heading to Tampa next Friday to take on Florida State.
