It looks like things are starting to come together for the sophomore cornerback, Dezz Ricks.
Since the beginning of this season, he has been a replica of his own teammate, Will Lee, or as he refers to himself, 'The Blanket.' Ricks has almost shut down his opponents completely so far this season, and just made a statement along with the rest of his teammates after a season-defining win against Notre Dame.
As Texas A&M beat writer Carter Karels puts it, Ricks has been one of the underrated corners in the nation this season, and these numbers compared to where he was last year tell a whole story.
Dezz Ricks is rapidly transforming into a star for Texas A&M
Texas A&M CB Dezz Ricks is having one heck of a start to the season. In the first three games, he gave up only two catches for seven yards on 10 targets (per PFF). Night-and-day difference from last fall – in his last three games, he allowed 11 catches for 318 yards and 2 TDs.

Ricks is having one of the best starts of any cornerback in the nation. PFF has Ricks only giving up two catches for seven yards on 10 targets. His numbers from last year are from obvious freshman mistakes, and they tell the story of how this quiet transformation should get some serious attention.
It seemed like Texas A&M's secondary had most problems with guarding Eli Raridon and Malachi Fields, which is a tough assignment for anybody with Fields holding a thick 6-foot-4 frame at 223 pounds.
While the Aggies saw one of their veteran defensive faces suffering a serious injury in Bryce Anderson, this shows the secondary is still holding strong, thanks to Ricks and Lee establishing themselves as a two-headed monster at cornerback.
Mentally and physically, the cornerback position is arguably the toughest in football. If we're talking just from the mental aspect, that would probably have to be the quarterback. Either way, fans should be proud of what Ricks has been able to do at the start of the season.
We also don't want to hold Ricks to such an impossible standard, because there will be one time when the Aggies' defense might just get outsmarted on a big play. However, this is an incredible transformation that shouldn't go unnoticed by coaches all across the country.
