Texas A&M fans are rejoicing at picking up a massive commitment from five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews— but one man who is not rejoicing by any means is Hurricane coach Mario Cristobal. The man was keyed into this recruitment, hoping against hope that he had been able to put a dent in the armor the Aggies seemed to have over the last few weeks, only to have his heart broken.
Matthews didn't make it easy on Cristobal, either, if the Hurricane coach was really watching. Some commitments are lower-key affairs, with some now just being announcements that go out over social media. This one, though, was being broadcast all over the internet— and so Matthews made sure that he got the most out of things.
He did so in such a way that had to have Cristobal pulling his hair out. We've seen some awesome commitment trolls over the years, but this one might have just taken the cake for all of them.
Texas A&M commit Mark Matthews trolls Mario Cristobal and Miami in commitment announcement
Suffice it to say that the newest commitment for Texas A&M got his mileage out of the announcement— that and much more, in all honesty. This is a must-watch for Aggie fans.

Matthews does the fake-out with the Aggie hat, which is great. You could tell from the way the Georgia hat looked that there was no way he was going to pick it, but he at least made a show of thinking about it. Then, he picks up the Hurricane hat and puts it back down in a moment that had to have Miami fans' hearts stopping.
But the deception goes even deeper! He then picks up the Aggie hat and pretends to put it on— only to hurl it out into the crowd and go back to the Miami hat! He picks it up, appearing to have fooled everyone in the room, yelling in apparent joy before switching up on a dime, tossing the hat aside, and unveiling his Texas A&M jersey.
From that point, the party was on. Matthews is clearly a huge personality, and you can tell by the way he's done this whole announcement that he will be a fan and program favorite for many years to come— not only for his play on the field, but the guy he is off the field.
Mario Cristobal has to have thought this was going his way for just a second, right? That's got to make things hurt even that much more for him— this was maybe the biggest recruit of this cycle for him (possibly the biggest since Francis Mauigoa) and he whiffed... but for a moment, he thought he had it in hand.
This is a massive, landmark day in Texas A&M recruiting going forward into the rest of this cycle. Matthews is clearly a guy that other players will want to team up with because of his skill, but putting this kind of excitement on display will also draw players to want to team up with him because of his magnetic personality.
