As expected yesterday, Texas A&M was not the selection for 5-star cornerback Joshua Dobson when all was said and done. The Aggies had been considered leaders for the nation’s second-ranked corner for a long stretch of time, but a late surge by the in-state Gamecocks saw him choose to commit somewhere closer to home.
This was a big win for the Gamecocks, as Dobson was their top-ranked target in the entire cycle. The Aggies, meanwhile, have three other five-star defensive back commitments and many other highly-ranked players in the boat, so the level of resources that SC committed was simply not something that they wanted to match up with.
However, all is not lost. Though high-level flips are rarer and rarer nowadays, the Aggies are by no means going to go away quietly in this recruitment— and it’s becoming clear that this applies not only to the coaching staff, but the current commit class as well.
Five-star linebacker Kaden Henderson took to X to render his congratulations towards Dobson on the decision he made— but he tagged it in the perfect way, reminding not only the 5-star cornerback that there’s still time to change his mind, but all the fans looking on as well.
Proud of you bro!! But there’s still a long way to go until December. 🤫 https://t.co/POOthufxkI

The best part for Aggie fans is that it’s clear that, contrary to Gamecock fans’ wishes, Dobson clearly shares this mindset.
Joshua Dobson’s comments after his commitment encourage Aggie fans who are hoping for a flip
Moments after the 5-star committed, he spoke with some local media and he sounded… less sure about his decision than many Gamecock fans would have hoped, saying things like he was committed “for now” and recognizing that there was still a “long way” to go.

That’s not at all what you want to hear from your top-ranked commitment right after he announces his decision at all. It seems for all the world like Dobson is still leaving the door wide open for the other schools who were recruiting him— and that means that it’s still wide open for the Aggies in particular.
Bryant Gross-Armiento has worked hard to build relationships with players like Dobson, and thought it sounds cliche to say that it seems like Dobson’s heart is really somewhere else, it’s hard to deny that he doesn’t not appear fully in on his South Carolina commitment, even moments after making it.
The Gamecocks under Shane Beamer have held onto big time five-star players before despite overtures from massive programs, it should be said— Nyck Harbor and Dylan Stewart were both wins like this for South Carolina. However, depending on how the upcoming season goes for each program— and the questionable job security for Shane Beamer in particular— we could see Dobson singing a quite different tune come December, especially if the Aggie commitments keep recruiting him the way they have been.
