Texas A&M commit sets Aggies at ease by quashing rumors following Texas visit

This was nothing if not a big sigh of relief after the rumors that emerged earlier today.

Texas A&M fans were concerned earlier today when word emerged that DeMarrion Johnson, one of the Aggies' longest-tenured commitments in the 2027 cycle, was in Austin to observe a spring practice for the Longhorns. Texas fans quickly seized on the news, looking to take some momentum away from what is shaping up to be one of the nation's top classes in College Station.

It's never good news to see a commitment visiting another school, and that's especially true when that school is one of your chief rivals. However, the Aggie coaching staff obviously has a better handle on things than some were giving them credit for, as a simple visit down to Austin is clearly not enough to shake Johnson off of his Texas A&M commitment.

The Aggie pledge took to X this evening to clear up the rumors that had been floating around, and it came as nothign short of a huge relief for Aggie fans.

DeMarrion Johnson "still 100% committed" to Texas A&M despite visit to Texas Longhorns

Johnson was clear and unambiguous about his commitment status with the Aggies:

Though Texas A&M is in the mix for at least three five-star offensive linemen, keeping Johnson in the fold should still be a priority for Cushing, Elko, and company. Winning a big in-state battle over your rival is reason enough, but the Aggies clearly had a lot of faith in Johnson as well— otherwise, they wouldn't have taken his commitment so early on.

The Aggies are in the midst of building maybe one of the most impressive recruiting classes we've ever seen in College Station, and Johnson looks to be a foundational part of that. Cushing and Elko have this one handled, pretty clearly, so no matter what Texas tries to throw their way, it looks like we are a long way off from worrying about the Longhorns as a threat here.
