Texas A&M football has thankfully remained relatively healthy thus far in the year, but their upcoming opponent, the Mississippi State Bulldogs, may not be.
The Aggies are waiting on a status update for linebacker Scooby Williams, who missed the Auburn game with an ankle injury suffered against Notre Dame, as well as Bryce Anderson, who is out for a longer period of time after a serious injury against the Irish. That's about it for the Aggies on the injury front, however— and the list of contributors for the Bulldogs who may miss time is much more significant.
Mississippi State wide receiver Brenen Thompson, one of the fastest players on the team, left the game against Tennessee and did not return last week. While there is no update from Jeff Lebby on his status, if the Bulldogs were in fact to miss him in this game, it would be a pretty massive hole in their offense.
Mississippi State struggling with injury bug headed into Texas A&M football game
The Bulldogs lost two contributors for the year after the Arizona State game in offensive lineman Blake Steen and defensive lineman Will Whitson. That's bad news for a team that will already be stretched thin trying to compete with the Aggies in the trenches.
Their other starting tackle, Albert Reese, also left the game against the Volunteers and did not return, something that led to the Bulldogs giving up five sacks against the Vols— a season high. The Aggies could really make some hay with their pass rush in this game when the Bulldogs aren't screening them to death, but that may be exactly what MSU has to do if they're missing both starting OTs.
On the defensive side, safety Isaac Smith also left the game against the Volunteers, but Lebby was quiet on his status as well in his presser. The leading tackler for the Bulldogs, Smith is a key part of their defense, so going without him— especially against an Aggie offense that loves to push the ball downfield— would be a huge blow for the Bulldogs.
Aggie fans will have to keep their eyes peeled for the Wednesday injury report. It will be very interesting to see which names pop up on there for the Bulldogs ahead of this matchup.
