Texas A&M football fans were dismayed at the amount of rushing yards that the Aggies gave up in the first half (and initial drive of the second half) to the UTSA Roadrunners. Though they never really threatened the Ags, whenever you're playing a lower-level opponent, fans always want a dominant showing.
Part of that was the fact that the Aggies were missing one of their most physical safeties on the team in Dalton Brooks, who, fans found out directly before the game, would not be playing. There's still no absolute certainty about why Brooks was out, but it looks like it was only temporary.
Mike Elko addressed the availability of Brooks, among other players, in his press conference today, and what he had to say should soothe the troubled minds of Aggie fans. The defense should look just a little bit sharper as of next game, given that Brooks should once again be available.

This is welcome news for the A&M faithful. The safeties helping in run defense can make a huge difference for a team, and Brooks is the most physical player at that spot on this Texas A&M team.
Brooks is looking to have a breakout year for Texas A&M after having a bit of a sophomore slump in 2024. Coming out strong in this next game against Utah State would be a nice way to kick things off, but they'll definitely need him against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in week three.
Hopefully, there are no more setbacks or injuries with Texas A&M players in the week leading up to Saturday's game, much less leading up to the Notre Dame game. Texas A&M will need to be at full strength to take on the Irish and stand a chance of winning in South Bend— but if they do, it could springboard Mike Elko's program into the tier of contenders.
