Texas A&M football has finally announced the date for their Maroon vs White spring game— something that many fans thought would simply not be taking place this year. It's become common for programs to cancel or modify their traditional spring game in the portal era, but the Aggies are holding fast to their past practice here.

The Aggies have scheduled their spring game for April 18 at 1 PM. No television details have yet been announced, but it will no doubt be on the SEC Network or ESPN. Texas A&M fans will be able to get a good look at the new transfers in the maroon and white, as well as some of the big time recruits that the Aggies brought in.
Texas A&M bucks recent trend by announcing Maroon and White Spring Game for April 18
Programs like Ole Miss and Texas have decided in recent years not to have spring games thanks to different factors. There have been some not-so-subtle intimations that players have shown out in those games and used those performances as leverage to gain more NIL dollars, with a threat that they will enter the spring portal window if demands are not met.
While there have been no confirmed instances of players doing this, of course, it's an understandable worry. That said, though, it's much less of an issue now that the portal activity has been confined to one timeframe back in January, something MIke Elko is a huge fan of, as he said at his most recent presser.
With the chance for injuries, as well, there are some who began to think this trend would catch on, and the spring game would become a thing of the past. At least this season, though, the Aggies are not ready to give up on the prospect.
Texas A&M fans have always loved the anticipation and event that this has become, and so this is no doubt huge news for the fans. We will once again be able to have a summer chock full of overreactions to this short period of gameplay and read too much into what we all see— and there's not much better than that.
