Penn State just made a move that will change the entire landscape of college football. James Franklin, who's been at the helm for the Nittany Lions since 2014, has been fired after three straight losses.

The Oregon one was understandable, but back-to-back losses aganist UCLA and Northwestern were absolutely inexcusable. This changes college football, and for the Aggies, it may be time for them to jump on something here.

Texas A&M football may be able to take advantage of some guys in the portal. The Aggies haven't been strangers to stealing guys in this way, and Mike Elko has a chance to capitalize here.

James Franklin's firing could help the Aggies in the portal

This is usually what happens, right? Some of the guys that orginally committed to Penn State will definitely bounce out after Franklin's firing. It's understandable, the players want to play for the man that initially recruited them. Anything out of left field like this firing will have some recruits in a frenzy.

The portal could be wide, wide open now, and this is a prime opportunity for the Aggies to jump on the original Franklin recruits. Defensive end Max Granville is the only player on the roster from Texas, and he visited Aggieland before committing to Penn State, but the Nittany Lions are national recruiters just like A&M.

The Aggies just picked up a four-star defensive tackle out of Georgia, and they won't be done as they continue to beef up the 2027 class. Of course, every blue blood will benefit from the Franklin firing, but the Aggies are making plenty of relevant noise right now, looking like a serious team that can go all the way.

This is about the worst thing to happen for Penn State fans, and possibly the best thing to happen for plenty of other schools. The Franklin fallout does need to be studied, but after that, Elko has to take advantage of the firing any way he can.
