Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies have been scorching hot on the recruiting trail. Huge names that have committed such as KJ Edwards, Brandon Arrington, Tristian Givens and Bryce Perry-Wright have rivals like the Longhorns in a disarray.
While the recruiting trail has been nice to Elko, there are some concerns from the past that might haunt the Aggies. Just like the old saying goes: "History tends to repeat itself." Let's just hope that Elko's staff doesn't make the same mistakes as Jimbo Fisher did.
Texas A&M might end up with the No. 1 recruiting class for 2026, and while that looks like a bright tunnel for the future, this might give fans PTSD from three years ago when Fisher was in the same exact spot.
Elko's massive recruiting class cannot be a repeat of Fisher's massive failure
Fisher came in with the No. 1 class back in 2022, and his plan completely backfired. The Aggies went 11-11 in the span of two seasons beginning in 2022. Aggie fans started to suffer from Fisher fatigue from mediocre seasons. While injuries led to inconsistency at QB, the 2022 Aggie season that was supposed to be from heaven ending up being a giant disaster.

Many in the comments are comparing the 2026 class to 2022. But even teams like Notre Dame and Alabama might not always play up to par with their expectations. This is a different era with Elko compared to Fisher, and Elko is building up his Aggie recruiting legacy a lot faster than Fisher ever did.
What we can say is that Elko understands the Aggie culture, and he's brought in some of the best names in coaching such as Collin Klein and Lyle Hemphill. Another advantage that Elko has is the money. With A&M deciding to fully scholarship each sport, this means that Elko can have an advantage that Fisher never had.
Obviously, Elko still has to put paper to the field, but this is a great start for Aggie fans to get pumped about the next generation of talent.
