It's been reported that the Texas A&M Aggies have hired Elijah Robinson as their new defensive line coach. Not only is this great for familiarity, but this also provides a weapon that the Aggies could really use.
Robinson was an elite recruiter and developer for Texas A&M. "E-Rob," as they call him, was reported last week to be in the running for the DL coach, and now, according to Matt Zenitz from CBS Sports, Robinson is back.
This is a monster hire, particularly because Robinson can help Elko recruit high school kids. It probably won't get someone like Lamar Brown to decommit from LSU, but either way, Robinson's presence is more than just a coach.
Texas A&M DL coach Elijah Robinson comes back to coach the Aggies
Robinson's first stint with Texas A&M was from 2018-2023. He was the DL coach from 2018-2021. In 2020, when Texas A&M won the Orange Bowl, the Aggies were ranked ninth-best nationally in defense. In 2021, his entire starting DL was in the NFL. This is the type of success that A&M fans are looking for, and it's easy to be hyped after a hiring like this one.
Texas A&M fans were scared at that point that they would lose Robinson to James Franklin and Penn State. It would've made sense, considering Penn State is where Robinson played his college ball.
The hiring of Robinson makes the Jay Bateman departure look like peanuts. Of course, no one can deny what Bateman and Lyle Hemphill did together, as they helped develop a boatload of Texas A&M defenders into some of the best bunch in the country. Cashius Howell won the SEC Defensive Player of the Year, and he will make some NFL team happy.
The key word is NFL. Robinson can help develop NFL talent, and he has a history of already doing that with Texas A&M.
