ESPN ranks Texas A&M football's Nic Scourton as eighth-best player in college football
When Nic Scourton committed to transfer to Texas A&M football from Purdue, fans immediately knew that Mike Elko had notched a huge commitment. The Bryan, Texas product had led the Big 10 in sacks the year prior, making a name for himself as one of the conference's best players despite playing for a perennial cellar-dweller in the Boilermakers.
Scourton, along with several other big time transfers into College Station, gave the Aggies the chance to be a hugely improved defense coming into the year. Though they've grown in fits and starts so far, that appears to be coming to fruition before our very eyes.
Number 11 himself is a huge part of that turnaround. He's been a force on the defensive line, notching 4.5 sacks and 10 total TFLs through the first part of the season. His play so far has him slated to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft come May.
His prodigious play up front for the Aggies has certainly drawn a lot of eyes, silencing doubters and impressing onlookers. For that reason, ESPN has ranked Scourton as the eighth-best player in college football. He is also ranked as the top defensive player in the sport, and the third-best transfer from last cycle (behind Cam Ward and Dillon Gabriel).

This is quite the milestone for Scourton, who was not a highly-ranked player coming out of high school. It is yet more evidence that he is one of the most impactful players in the nation, and will continue to be a high achiever down the stretch for Texas A&M football.
