Mike Elko revealed a week ago that spring injuries are still affecting his roster. Most of them aren't surprises, but with Dezz Ricks set to be out for spring with an injury, there's a sudden competition on our hands.
Julio Humphrey has the advantage of already being a Texas A&M Aggie, but he doesn't have as many reps to his resume. The former Georgia transfer only logged seven total tackles and one pass deflection in five games played last year, mostly in garbage time moments.
Another one on the CB2 list is the new Tennessee transfer, Rickey Gibson. Gibson suffered a severe upper-body injury that left him on the bench for the majority of the 2025 season. He didn't get much action, but the three-year player has logged a total of 42 tackles, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble.
Texas A&M football has a choice to make at the CB2 position
Mike Elko provided an injury update ahead of spring practice:

Jerome Myles, Micah Riley, Papa Ahfua, Jamar Beal-Goines, Dezz Ricks, Dalton Brooks and TomTom Johnson will be limited this spring.
Long-term injuries from in-season surgeries: Jermaine Kinsler and Deyjhon Pettaway
Neither option is really going to stick like we want it to, but it's a necessary move with Ricks out for the spring.
The option may be Gibson as the reliable CB2 because he has more experience than Humphrey. He was the starter at his position with the Vols last season. Gibson's injury is always going to be a second thought, but as long as the Aggies have him, they need to use him in every way necessary.
We'll never know what we would've expected from Gibson's 2025 season, but we have him in an Aggie uniform to judge.
Humphrey's skills can't be forgotten, too. After all, he was a five-star recruit coming out of high school. He was a 5-star recruit by Rivals out of Clear Lake High School in Houston, TX. His time has been coming, and it won't be shocking if he gets some reps too.
Dalton Brooks will be limited in the spring, too. Expect to see Tawfiq Byard, the transfer from Colorado, get his much-needed reps.
