Texas A&M is heading into 2026 with one of the deepest rosters the program has had in recent memory, and they are about to make it just that much deeper. Late last night, it was announced that south Florida DB Loia Valade, a three-star commit in the 2027 class who most Aggie fans regarded as maybe their most underrated prospect, was reclassifying up to 2026 and would be joining the Aggies' roster this fall.

On this very deep roster for the Aggies, defensive back is maybe the deepest spot out of all of them— yet this is still a quality addition for the Aggies. Despite the fact that Valade was not near the top of the class when it comes to the ratings, he's a guy that the staff clearly valued highly— in other words, the manner in which they pursued the recruitment as well as this decision itself to get him to campus early clearly speaks to how highly they view him as a prospect.
Texas A&M adds Loia Valade as talented DB reclassifies to 2026
Texas A&M emerged quickly for Valade, plucking him out of the grasp of the Miami Hurricanes, who really wanted to pick up his commitment. Valade, a hard-hitting safety, brings the physicality on the back end that every high-level team wants out of their DBs, so you can tell why both of these high-level programs wanted to get him on campus.
It's the Aggies who won out then, and with this move, they've foiled any hopes that the 'Canes had of flipping the local product later in the cycle. Not only that, but they have the ability to bring Valade along a little faster than he would otherwise have been able to do.
Unless Valade is going to blow all expectations out of the water, he's probably not a risk to jump to the NFL draft after only three years, so this is a move that makes a lot of sense for the Aggies. Get a guy like this in the scheme and Tommy Moffit's weight program, and he'll begin to shine more quickly than he would have otherwise.
This also will add another option into the mix for next year, when the Aggies are projected to lose a lot of the defensive backfield depth. No doubt Texas A&M will be active in the transfer portal, but a talented guy like Valade with one year of experience under his belt will be nothing but a plus when it comes to the upcoming season.
This is a savvy program move by Mike Elko, when all is said and done. Not only did the Aggies curtail any possibility of the Hurricanes flipping Valade (though the looming specter of the transfer portal is still out there), they added to their depth at a position where they will need some experience in the coming years. This is why a future-focused coach like Elko and a program like the one he has built can win for years to come: you find creative ways to boost the program like this.
