Texas A&M made a Notre Dame WR eat his words in their week 3 upset

One receiver for the Irish came out with some bold words in the pregame, but he didn't quite deliver.

Notre Dame receiver Jaden Greathouse is probably wishing right now that he hadn't said quite as much as he did in his press availability this past week.

The veteran receiver for the Irish out of Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, clearly felt as though he and the Notre Dame receivers were in for a big day against the Aggies in their matchup this past weekend. On the other side of what turned into a program-defining win for the Ags, he didn't quite deliver on that cockiness.

As a matter of fact, Mario Craver— who just took home AP Player of the Week honors for his huge game— outgained all Notre Dame wide receivers by himself in that game by about 33%. The Irish receivers combined for 12 receptions and 155 yards— Craver notched 207 yards on 7 receptions, one of which was an 86-yard house call in the first quarter.

Notre Dame receiver Jaden Greathouse has words blow up in his face after lackluster performance against Texas A&M

The Aggies lost a couple of players in coverage at times, but overall, the performance by the Irish against the A&M DBs left a lot to be desired. 12.9 yards per reception is not exactly a blowout performance, and there were several timely pass breakups that the Aggie defensive backs made against those ND receivers.

Dezz Ricks in particular has been stellar for the Aggies thus far this year, as has Will Lee. When in man coverage, Ricks was a complete lockdown defender, and Lee wasn't far behind him. Zone was a bigger issue for that back end, but you also need to credit CJ Carr for his patience and ability to find the holes in those zones.

Greathouse himself simply did not back up his talk nearly enough. He had one explosive play, but hardly got open all night against these Aggie defensive backs that he was writing off in the above quote.

There's a lot to be excited about with this Aggie team moving forward, much of which is the improved play of those two corners. They locked down Greathouse, and I'm sure they'll continue to do that to other receivers they face going forward.
