Texas A&M has released their initial depth chart for the 2026 season, and there are a couple of glaring points of interest for fans who have been following some of the more hotly-contested position battles over the course of the offseason. The thing that jumps out most immediately is that, while the three players that fans expected to see at the top of the cornerback battle are in fact there, the entrenched starter is not who fans thought.

Most expected to see Dezz Ricks, the incumbent starter from last year, as the surefire no. 1 corner for the Aggies— instead, if this depth chart is anything to go off of, it’s Julio Humphrey who has his spot locked down, while Ricks is battling Gibson for playing time on the opposite side. That’s a complete shift from what most thought, which was that it would be Humphrey vs. Gibson.
With how high Ricks’ level of play was this previous year, though, this should be an encouragement to the Texas A&M faithful. If Humphrey has raised his game to be the top starter, that means that the Aggie defensive backfield will be even more of a lockdown unit than it was last year.

We’ll have to see just how well this depth chart actually bears out when game time comes, of course— Elko has made a habit of rotating players early on in the season before really settling on his top starters later on in the season.
Offensive line is another group where his teams have had a lot of rotation in previous years, and that’s another spot where we have an (at least initial) answer for this first game. The guard spots will be populated by Blake Ivy and Trovon Baugh, while the tackle spots will belong to Tyree Adams and Wilkin Formby.
Robert Bourdon is behind Formby at the one spot, while Lamont Rogers is behind Adams at the other. Bourdon saw a lot of action last year as the sixth offensive lineman for the Aggies, while fans have been waiting for Rogers to break out as a former five-star prospect.
Coen Echols, the other transfer lineman the Aggies brought in, is listed as the top backup at two positions, so he is likely to see a lot of time as well this season. All eight of these guys should have a lot of snaps under their belt by the time conference play really gets kicked up.
The other notable thing is that Ray Coney, who has really gotten himself noticed in fall camp, is listed as a backup at the linebacker spot. Again, expect him to see plenty of time rotating in, but that’s an encouraging sign for the development of Noah Mikhail, who the coaches have loved ever since they were recruiting him.
Game time is just around the corner by this point, so it’s time to finally see all these names in action. With kickoff now just days away, excitement has never been higher for the 2026 season— and we’re finally seeing this team really begin to take shape.
