It's been a week of different emotions for the Texas A&M Aggies and Oklahoma Sooners, as both of their softball teams were crowned co-champions of the SEC due to inclement weather standing in the way.
Many saw this is a way of SEC commissioner Greg Sankey taking a away a true shot at a true Aggie SEC title. For the Sooners, they're the queens of college softball, looking to continue their usual ride to Oklahoma City to go for a fifth consecutive national championship.

The move has been deemed as controversial, but following the Aggies achieving their first overall No. 1 seed in program history, the Aggies athletics department has been quiet about it, and in essence, the media hasn't gotten a chance to get any reaction following the rare feat.
Texas A&M softball provides no public media availability despite being crowned SEC co-champs
This is one of the more head-scratching PR moments for the Aggies, especially after accomplishing the No. 1 overall seed for the first time in program history. There was no public media availability at all following the selection show. Instead, statements are only going to be provided to local media, putting a dent into anyone outside of College Station covering the team.
On the night where Texas A&M softball earned the program's first-ever No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, it's a shame there was no media availability for them to talk about the accomplishment. Statements will be provided to local media by athletic communications.

We've seen press conferences in all sports throughout the most random times on weekdays, but following this amazing accomplishment by the Texas A&M softball program, it's almost worrying that we didn't see any media availability. Travis Brown of KBTX-TV puts it into perfect prospective in the shoes of all the Aggies fans.
Hey, it's the fan's loss. A competitive press corps that does its own research and comes to the availability with a wide spectrum of questions provides better coverage for the fans who support the teams than a few statements provided by athcomm.

ESPN reporter Ben Baby says what most Aggies fans were thinking. He says that this falls on the whole department to be more transparent with its fans in and out of Texas.
There are a lot of Aggies in and outside of Texas that deserve better media coverage than what that athletic department currently allows.

The main story is: Texas A&M softball is the No. 1 overall seed for the first time in school history. They'll have a lot more to worry about than the media, but Brown and Baby present a solid argument for Aggie fans to get better, transparent information whenever necessary.
