Texas A&M softball has finally learned their postseason fate after an early exit from the SEC Tournament last week, and it's a matchup that everyone could see coming from a mile away. The Aggies are thankfully still in the hosting picture, as they snag the 15th national seed and will host at Davis Diamond this weekend— but it's the matchup after that that has caught everyone's attention.

To little or no surprise, despite the way things shook out in Lexington, the Aggies are matched with the Austin regional, meaning that if the Aggies and Longhorns both win, as each is favored to, the two teams will meet for a Super Regional and a chance to go to the College World Series.

We don't want to put the cart ahead of the horse, here— Texas A&M still has to get through next weekend's regional competition, as does Texas— but this is shaping up to be quite the showdown for the second time in three years.

Texas A&M softball matched up with Texas Longhorns in the postseason yet again

Trisha Ford's Aggies nearly toppled Texas two seasons ago when they met in a Super Regional, but the Longhorns eventually won out, two games to one. The Aggies lost a pair of one-run games earlier this season, but salvaged the final game 9-7 to exit the three-game series dead-even in scoring— something that sets up quite the juicy matchup if things go according to plan.

The NCAA Tournament committee loves nothing more than setting up the Aggies and Longhorns to meet in playoff scenarios, as we've seen time and time again. It's always extremely painful for the loser, and it adds a heck of a lot of swagger for the winner until the next time the two meet up.

The Aggies will have to get through this weekend, though, as they are set to play UConn at 1 PM on Friday. McNeese and Arizona State round out the regional field at Davis Diamond— this is anything but a gimme, given the Aggies are down at the 15th national seed, but we should see Trisha Ford's squad advancing for this big time matchup when all is said and done.
