Texas A&M spring game takeaways: Marcel Reed played better than his stats indicate
While my projection that fans would be clamoring to see Helaman Casuga in the driver's seat this season turned out to be pretty much a dud, despite his game-winning pass— Brady Hart was by far the better backup quarterback— there are still some who are dissatisfied with Marcel Reed's numbers.
Those stats can be deceiving, however. Reed's day was actually quite good when you watch the tape— he was very decisive and on-time with his throws, making a couple of tosses that had A&M fans raising their eyebrows, such as the out route to the long side of the field that so many NFL scouts love to see.
He was also doing a better job of taking off when he needed to, though we weren't able to see the full power of his scrambles in a spring game setting. That is the kind of play Aggie fans need to see out of him in the upcoming season if the offense is going to be successful.
Overall, Reed's day was really what fans needed to see. He didn't get injured and he didn't make any questionable decisions— it sounds like the reported strides he has made over the offseason are for real.
