Texas A&M teases controversial uniform choice for early kickoff in CFP

Are the Aggies really going to go in this direction?

Texas A&M has brought back their blackout uniforms over the past two season to an extremely popular reception by the fanbase. 2024's game against LSU was one of the most memorable yet of the Mike Elko era, not only for the blackout, but also the insertion of Marcel Reed at quarterback in the second half and the way the Aggies ran all over the Tigers after that point.

Even this year against Mississippi State was pretty notable, as the Aggies caught fire after struggling early on offense. The choice to deploy these uniforms against the Bulldogs was initially controversial, but it ended up working out pretty well for everyone.

Of course, one of the reasons that this uniform was gone for so long was due to an infamous blunder in the 2015 season where the blackout combo, then billed as an "Aggie Nights" uniform, was used for a noon game against South Carolina. Especially with the special helmet that the Aggies used in that one, it was a completely unnecessary slip-up— and the Ags may be about to repeat that error.

Texas A&M possibly teases blackout uniform for early CFP kickoff

Carter Karels of 247Sports caught that Aggie social pages have begun changing their profile pictures to a black version of the logo, which was exactly what they did before each of the last two blackout games.

If this is what the Aggies are indeed planning, it seems like a misstep. Wearing these for a night game makes a lot of sense and adds to the vibes, but wearing them for an 11 AM kickoff just seems like it doesn't fit in the slightest.

Hopefully this is part of a different campaign— maybe something to do with the College Football Playoff— rather than a tease for wearing blackout uniforms. There's been no other indication so far that this is what the Aggies are planning (no indication that fans should wear black, for example), so maybe it is indeed something different than what fans are intuiting. Hopefully so, at least.
