Texas A&M wasted no time in pouncing on Auburn's top recruit after Freeze firing

The Tigers' loss could be the Aggies' gain here very quickly.

Auburn firing Hugh Freeze means that yet another school has leapt onto the madness that is this year's coaching carousel— joining Arkansas, LSU, Florida, Penn State, and more. It also, as it happens, means a huge opportunity for Texas A&M football, who has been lying in wait on the recruiting front to make their move.

The players currently on the Tigers' roster is one thing, and the Aggies would be foolish if they didn't try to leverage their connections with Cam Coleman to see if a transfer could happen. However, that will have to wait for right now: at the current moment, the Ags are working hard on the current commit class.

There are two Auburn verbal pledges that the Aggies were high choices for: five-star safety Bralan Womack and five-star receiver Jase Mathews. Both out of the state of Mississippi, the Tigers had pulled them in at the expense of the Aggies, but now Texas A&M is going to do what they can to flip them— and they've already made some headway in one case.

Texas A&M wastes no time in getting visit from five-star Auburn commitment

Texas A&M was right there at the finish line for S Bralan Womack when he pledged to Auburn, but now Tom Loy of 247 reports that they're making their move:

Womack has to like what he's seeing out of the Aggie defensive back class— this defense could go to the next level if they are able to get a prospect like him into the fold. The full-court press will be on with signing day only a few weeks away at this point.

There are only two home games remaining, and that date against South Carolina on November 15 is shaping up to be a big recruiting weekend, with the Aggies looking to bring in some of the nation's top talent. Getting Womack around them and the rest of the commit class would be huge, so while there's no official confirmation of the date of his visit, you have to think that the coaching staff would be angling for that date in particular.

This is a big move from the Aggies' staff, and hopefully we see similar news on Jase Mathews soon. For now, though, this is a super encouraging sign for Texas A&M.
