The number that shows just how underappreciated Buzz Williams is by A&M fans

Texas A&M basketball is en route to one of their greatest season of all time, and this number shows just how special things have already been.

Texas A&M basketball under Buzz Williams is fully resurgent after being long dormant

Texas A&M basketball is coming off of one of the more dramatic wins you'll ever see in the SEC. The Aggies trailed late at Ole Miss, but they overcame the deficit to win on the road against a ranked Rebels squad thanks to a game-winning three by Manny Obaseki.

With how rare it is to beat ranked teams on the road in college basketball, getting that win on the register in and of itself is a huge achievement. But it adds to a growing legacy for the head man for the Aggies— a guy who many have questioned at different points in his tenure.

I too have remarked more than once that Buzz Williams's teams tend to have some predictable issues that have been pretty problematic over the years in College Station. But while there have been disappointing stretches, the impressive spates of play match or exceed those lean times.

A conversation came up on Wednesday's broadcast regarding Williams's standing in A&M history as regards his achievements. The aforementioned ranked road win— again, a rarity in the sport— is something that Buzz has been positively prolific at in his time with the Aggies, notching as many in his six seasons as in the previous 37 years combined.

It's not just that, though. The previous three Aggie coaches, each of which had some really hot stretches, have managed just barely more ranked wins overall than Buzz has had in his time with the Aggies:

Buzz will have the chance to match or exceed that mark through the rest of the year, as the schedule for the Aggies continues to get tougher and tougher. But even if he goes o-fer for the rest of the year, this is still more than enough to show that Buzz has been patently underappreciated by this fanbase.
