The path is clearing for Marcel Reed to be a top-3 quarterback in the SEC in 2025

Texas A&M football's QB showed some major improvement down the stretch of the season. With the way things are shaping up in 2025, he could make some real noise.

Texas A&M football's Marcel Reed is bound for a top-3 designation in the conference in 2025

The stretch run of this football season for Texas A&M fans was not exactly one to write home about. The Aggies' poor record in November and bowl game loss were deflating to watch; as the injuries piled up for the Aggies and production began to tail off at key spots, A&M fans became despondent.

Yet, in the midst of all that, a bright light was shining. QB Marcel Reed, who struggled mightily to pass the ball in the earlier part of the season, was taking leaps and bounds in that aspect of his game after the Aggies fully committed to him being the top QB moving forward.

If you had told me before the season began that Reed would be the starter and Weigman would have departed via the portal by the end of the year, I would have been frantic with worry. Instead, this team has a strong vision and bright future at the position. Just look at these numbers:

It's worth mentioning that this was all accomplished without a full season's worth of starts and with a roster that was anemic at the skill positions. Reed didn't appear against Notre Dame or Mississippi State, and he pretty much only handed the ball off against Missouri.

With a full season starting— hopefully— and a much-improved supporting cast of receivers and backs, Reed has a chance to be a big time game changer next year. In fact, in my book, Reed has the chance to be one of the top three players at the position in the SEC in 2025.

Some entrenched names are moving on, of course. Carson Beck, Quinn Ewers, and Jaxson Dart are all heading to the NFL after this year. That means that Reed's competition will be the likes of DJ Lagway, LaNorris Sellers, and Garrett Nussmeier next season.

Don't get me wrong— Sellers and Lagway in particular have extremely high ceilings. To be mentioned alongside them next year means Reed will have to put up some considerable numbers. But he's shown some great proof of concept this year, and I expect the entire offense to take a step next season.

All this to say, don't be surprised to hear Reed's name mentioned as an elite player at the position in 2025— something the Aggies haven't really had since Manziel. There have been some false starts, but if he stays healthy, Reed has the ingredients to be that kind of guy.
