Texas A&M football fans are still celebrating after Mike Elko absolutely dominated the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the eleventh hour to win out for five-star LB Kaden Henderson. You’d think that the Irish would anticipate a last-second move to win a hard-fought contest, but apparently not.
The recruiting world moves quickly, though. Even with Henderson now in the boat, Aggie fans are looking to see who could be next to jump in with a recruiting class that now seems all but completely certain to end up as the top in the nation.
Here are three names to watch closely as those that could end up committing to Texas A&M next after Kaden Henderson.
Three 5-star prospects that could commit to Texas A&M after Kaden Henderson jumps in the boat
WR Eric McFarland
The electric wide receiver out of IMG has been high on the Aggies for quite some time now, and it seems like he is trending towards making a decision sooner rather than later. Henderson would be the crown jewel of the Aggie receiver class for this cycle if he decides to jump in the boat here soon, and it’s very realistic that he does so.
McFarland is cut from the same cloth as a Mario Craver— he’s a bit undersized as a pass-catcher, but unparalleled in how electric he is with the ball in his hands. He’s a yardage machine, in other words, and would function well as a kick returner as well as a receiver.
The Aggies are battling Georgia and LSU in this one, but they seem to be the distant favorite right now. McFarland should announce once official visit season is done, so it could be coming any day now.
OL Albert Simien
Simien is the remaining five-star offensive lineman where the Aggies are considered among the favorites. Ismael Camara has given the Aggies a look, but there’s not been near as much buzz around the Aggies there as there has been with Simien.
Texas A&M has been the prediction for the nation’s top offensive guard for quite some time, but there are a couple of schools, like LSU, looking to make a run at Simien and knock the Aggies off of their perch— one of those schools is Notre Dame, who is still stinging from A&M beating them for Henderson. The Aggies will have to press hard to overcome what ND will throw at them, but they have the horses to do it.
Simien would be the final piece to a massive offensive line haul for this cycle, one which would include three five-star prospects. If the Aggies were able to land him, we could be looking at a run at the position group that rivals what we saw with Joeckel, Matthews, Ifedi, Oghbuehi, and the rest.
RB Landen Williams-Callis
Speaking of undersized and electric playmakers, the Richmond Randle running back has been high on the Aggies as well for some time, and he’s coming off of a visit to College Station that could have put A&M far above the other contenders. The Aggies will have to weather a visit down to Austin this weekend, but they look like they’re in an enviable position right now.
The Recruiting Prediction Machine for LWC heavily favors the Aggies right now, which is a great sign as far as that goes. Texas A&M currently holds a 86.5% likelihood to land him, according to that metric, but you always have to take those with a grain of salt.
His numbers boggle the mind— he put up an unbelievable 3502 rushing yards with 59 touchdowns last season on 10.8 yards per carry. He’s not only speedy, he’s elusive, with some industry experts comparing him to the inimitable Barry Sanders.
Williams-Callis does not have a date set yet to commit, but the feeling is that it will likely be before his senior season starts. The Aggies and Trooper Taylor have been hard after him for some time, and hopefully their hard work pays off.
