Three optimistic takeaways from Texas A&M's latest bogus CFP ranking

Texas A&M just learned its fate after falling to the Texas Longhorns. In what was a tough loss for many reasons, the Aggies expected to fall. What was disappointing was a late loss in the season rather than an early loss that apparently wouldn't count as much against them.

Even though Ole Miss is ranked above Texas A&M, and the advanced stats clearly show Texas A&M with an advantage, it's not the complete end of the world to see A&M where they are.

No. 7 isn't the end of the world for the Aggies, but as of now, they would have to face Notre Dame in the first round of the playoff. Notre Dame loses the head-to-head battle against Texas A&M and Miami, and the Irish are at a disadvantage.

We have three reasons why fans should be OK with Texas A&M being where they currently stand.

1. Texas A&M should have a home game no matter what

A December playoff game in College Station is a rarity, and it seems like that's what will happen with A&M not on the schedule this weekend.

Imagine the 12th Man on a cold afternoon or night at Kyle. This would be the ultimate prize for any Texas A&M fan who's able to go in person. Of course, fans would've loved a first-round bye, but this is truly the next best thing.

2. Texas A&M has already beaten Notre Dame

It's good to have that confidence of history going in your favor.

Sure, the Aggies had some help from a missed extra point, and it came down to a desperation play on a fourth-down throwing to what was likely the last receiving option in Nate Boerkircher.

That kind of confidence to win a game in that enviornment can do a lot for a team, and it's the kind of momentum they need going into Kyle.

3. CFP committee says idle teams can move up or down

The committee may be able to correct the mistake they made on Tuesday night. As CFP selection committee chair, Hunter Yurachek explains, we may not be set with Ole Miss being in front of Texas A&M, and that could also mean that Miami could end up replacing Notre Dame.

"Teams that are idle can move up or down. "
Hunter Yurachek

Rece Davis added in the interview with Yurachek that the Canes still have a chance. Now, whether or not that's good for A&M remains to be seen, but the committee can definitely re-rank the teams in their final CFP show on Sunday morning.
