Three reasons Texas A&M football smokes LSU this Saturday
We're almost there, Texas A&M football fans. Tomorrow night, the Aggies will face off against the LSU Tigers in an extremely decisive game with regard to the SEC race.
The Aggies and Tigers—both fans and players—are already pretty worked up for this one. And well they should be; this is maybe the most important game yet this season for the postseason standings in this 12-team playoff world.
So why should Aggie fans have confidence against this potent LSU offense and a team that is on just as much of a hot streak as A&M is? Glad you asked! Here's three reasons.
Texas A&M football limits LSU's explosives while generating many of their own
LSU is a boom or bust team—there's really no two ways about it. They make their living on the big plays; after all, that's pretty much what won them what was, in retrospect, a pretty uneven game against Ole Miss.
The Aggies have allowed one or two of those big plays early in games throughout the year, but they tighten up well as the game goes on. LSU could snag a big play here or there, but it won't be a consistent thing against A&M.
However, the Aggies are facing a defense that has broken more often than simply bent. LSU is quite susceptible to giving up some big gains, especially through the air, as they look to pressure and get teams off-schedule, doing so to a fault at times.
A&M will make the Tigers move down the field with consistent execution and cover things over the top. If LSU can take what A&M gives them, great—tighten up in the red zone. But I think LSU will get impatient to their own detriment, while A&M will find the holes on the other side of the ball.
